Odin is android utility software developed by Samsung to flash Custom Recovery firmware images, Stock firmware, as well Un-brick devices. Samsung originally intended for internal use only, and not for the public. However, the software found, (or leaked) its way into the mainstream and has since become widely used among Android users. Extremely lightweight and feature-rich, it is a useful utility for those looking to restore and or modify their Samsung Smartphone or Tablet.
Always be sure to create a full backup of your device before you attempt to use the utility. Failure to do so can result in the complete loss of all data stored on the device.
First, download the latest version of Odin by clicking on the blue download button in the upper right-hand corner of this window. Run the executable file and follow the instructions.
Next, Open the utility from its saved location and chose the Stock ROM firmware that matches your smartphone model and Android OS version.
In addition, you will need to download and install the appropriate device driver software.
You will need to Boot up your smartphone in “Download mode.”
To do this, power down your device and then restart as follows.
“Press and hold the Power Button, Volume Down, and Home Button all at the same time.”
When the device boots up you feel a vibration, at that point you will release the Power Button.
With your fingers still holding down on the Volume and Home Button, you should see a small yellow triangle appear on the screen.
It is now time press the Volume Up Button.
If successful, your Android device will display green text with “Downloading,” and “Do not turn off target.”
The smartphone now is booted in Download Mode.
Next, you need to connect the Android device to your computer via USB cable. The software should automatically detect the device and display it in the application window.
Browse the Firmware that you wish to download by clicking either PDA or, AP.
To load the Firmware, click the Start Button and let the process begin.
Finally, if successful, you will see a reassuring green PASS! in the utility windows.
